Notes Plethora
You can get your own 'note' as part of the Double Deal over on Blackshapes Books. This offer won't be available after the end of August so act now if you want to take advantage!
My apologies those folk who ordered books and are still waiting - they are in the mail now. I got more 'note' requests than I expected and as a result got a little backed up...

Buzz Launch
Been working on this great project over the last few weeks in association with the Oonagh Young Gallery and the illustrator Fintan Taite. Fintan and myself have been making short comic strips based on the audio recordings of Dublin city kids talking about their lives and what they get up to in the locality.
Oonagh has put it all together into this comic called Buzz -it's being launched in the Oonagh Young Gallery, 1 James Joyce Street, Dublin 1 this Wednesday 21st May at 11am. The exhibition of some of the kids artwork is going to be there for a week as well as some original art and prints from Fintan and myself.
You can get a copy of the comic at the gallery for 3 euro. It's printed on newsprint and is the size of those old IPC comics like Whizzer and Chips and the old 2000ad so it should yellow up all nice. The comic should be available from various outlets around the city thereafter too.
There is an Irish Times piece giving a bit more background on the project here.
The Facebook page for the launch is here.

Comics Evening Course - Visual Storytelling
This January I'll be commencing to teach an 8 week evening course in comic making entitled Visual Storytelling.
It's going to be on in Marino College in Fairview, Dublin and will begin on Monday 27th January from 7-9pm and continue each following Monday night.
Students will learn the basics of comic storytelling and each create their own multi-page, black and white story for inclusion in a class anthology, a copy of which they will receive at the final class.
The focus will be on storytelling through words and pictures with an emphasis on personal and autobiographical work. The class does not require previous drawing experience though it will include hints and tips on cartooning, design and other related visual skills as well as information on the layout and print-production aspect of comic book creation.
Each class will include hands-on practical exercises as well as ‘homework’ for the following weeks. Materials will be provided for the first class.
The course will consist of 8 weeks of 2 hour classes. The overall cost for the course is €80. Sign-up for the course is Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st January at Marino College from 5-8pm - more details on sign-up and the postal enrolment form here.

Zine workshop at Seomra Spraoi
This Sunday 20th October from 3 - 4pm I'll be doing a workshop in Seomra Spraoi as part of the Eddie Pie Hands launch. It's at 10 Belevedere Court which is not far off off Mountjoy Square in Dublin (map here).
The launch goes on from 12 - 6pm and there are plenty of other cool workshops as well as food and entertainment. Suggested donation is a fiver. Eddie Pie Hands is a non-profit printing resource for zine makers and DIY publishers and provides a great value way of getting your work reproduced. Facebook page here and good Totally Dublin article on them here.
I'll be asking 'Why bother make a zine when you can just blog?', explaining why, showing some of my early self-publishing efforts:
and showing how to make a zine out of one sheet of paper which is pretty much the following diagram:
It'll be all about getting back to my roots - yeah?
