Many thanks to all the young artists who helped with the Giant Where's Larry Doodle at the Dublin Book Festival on Sunday! Much fun was had and loads of drawing done. Wish I had half the energy of this lot - they're amazing!

Where's Larry Jam Workshop
Calling all young Larry the Leprechaun fans! I'm doing a workshop in the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire on the 16th March (yes, right before St.Patricks day) as part of the You Create series in which you can learn how to draw yourself as Larry and participate in a spectacular Larry jam where you draw in the characters.
More details and ticket booking here.
There are some other great events in the series too - from Chris Judge, Fintan Taite and Sarah Webb.
I visited a young Larry Fan in Co. Laois recently who had a rather well-loved copy of Where's Larry!

Media Larry
If you haven't heard it already - a lovely stop press review of Where's Larry over on the Comiccast.
Also a nice considered review in the Echo:
Furthermore a mention and a competition to win a copy in Ireland's favorite airbrushed celebrity cover star TV listings mag the RTE Guide:

Larry on the loose
I've been holding off on the Larry related posts till now just to make sure he's actually in the shops but I've had the book first spot today in Chapters, Parnell Street, Dublin - there was only one left and all so better make it snappy if you want one from there!
They're down in the Irishy kids section at the moment.

Expect a slew of Larry stuff in the next few days.

Where's Larry almost landed
Great news - I just got my author copies of 'Where's Larry' from O'Brien Press and it looks the business with a topper job on the print production.
Keep an eye out for it in shops very soon - official release date is 21st June but if you're careful you might spot him sooner.

Procurement from your local bookshop is always preferred but if you must go online it's available from Amazon as well as the O'Brien Press website.
On the Glendalough scene a certain amount of conflation of the main elements was necessary.
To go from this:

You won't see these groovy cows on the final print spread though - they're just behind the textbox:

Where's Larry in Croke Park
It's tricky to show some of the Where's Larry the Leprechaun work without giving away the spreads but here's a couple of gag fragments from Croke Park that are covered over by the text box:
Croker was a difficult one to draw - you want to get a sense of the place but be able to see enough of the spectators to shoehorn in plenty of gags.
This is some repeating background Larry wallpaper that appears at a few points throughout the book:

Where's Larry?
Last year the majority of drawing time was taken up with my new book coming out from O'Brien Press in June.
'Where's Larry?' follows Larry the Leprechaun around some of Ireland's most famous tourist sites with the aim to spot him and his pals among all the hi-jinx. O'Brien Press recently added a preview of the St.Patrick's Day Parade spread to their blog which you can check out here.
Each week between now and the launch in June I'm going to be posting some background bits and notes on the production.
For starters here's the finalised version of the cover:
Here are some of the cover roughs that didn't make it:
The crowd took a while to draw but nailing Larry's expression was more tricky - as I mentioned somewhere before it's a fine line between mischevious and sinister:
